Razi educational and therapeutic center was stablished in an 8 hectares area of Tabriz city with excellent weather at Elgholi Street; an area of by Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Office in 1972. Physical environment of this hospital with its unique features such as special local trees and green area between buildings which are located in a suitable distance from each other has a beautiful view to see. At 1972 this center was established with the foundation of about 11000 square meters, 250 beds, Para clinical services like radiology and laboratory. Although at 1974 psychiatry, drug abuse and pulmonary wards were established with 100 beds.
At 1980 pulmonary ward was transferred to the Sina educational and therapeutic center and at 1982 with great efforts of psychiatry department patients with psychiatric disorders from Tapali Bagh had been transferred to Razi center.
Until 3991 patients received therapeutic services in Farabi, Abooreyhan, shafa and women wards. With efforts and financial supports of Nobar charity society a new building for psychiatric patients were stablished which increased capacity of hospital from 300 to 650 beds.
Due to increase in number of inpatients in recent years, with the permission of therapeutic deputy of the Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, number of beds increased to 665 beds at 2016.
At 2017-2018 by progress of center and increasing demands for more beds at psychiatric wards, with the order of therapeutic deputy of the Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, 200 more beds were added to these wards and some of the patients with chronic psychiatric disorders transferred to a new established building in Bababaghi center. Therapeutic and administrative affairs of Bababaghi center are under supervision of Razi management team. From 13th March 2019 Bababaghi hospital has been integrated with Razi center and all of financial, therapeutic, educational and research affairs and processes are conducted by Razi educational and therapeutic center.
From 2014 in parallel with implementation of health system transformation program and hoteling project, constructional programs according to planning and approval of ministry of health have been conducted in 4 areas of physical environment, equipment, toilets and welfare services in various units of center. Standardization of hospital kitchen, laundry, pharmacy and medical records archive has been completed. At 2016 long term monitoring (LTM) ward has been stablished and after that promotion of ICU was conducted. Promotion of psychiatry emergency and development of psychosomatic ward and geriatric psychiatry ward are under process. During 2017 required substructures for development of central Oxygen for center was stablished and at 2018was exploited.
Although this center has a significant role in education of specialists of children and adolescents psychiatry, residents of psychiatry and neurology and students of rehabilitation, nursing, paramedical and psychology field.
Another brilliant performance indicator of this center is the research activities of “Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Research Center” and “Development of Psychiatric and Psychological Knowledge Workgroup” which are conducted by faculty members and staffs of center.
Recently Comprehensive Center of Autism Spectrum Disorder has been stablished and started educational and therapeutic activities and services.
At the latest evaluation of national accreditation standards at 2016 Razi educational and therapeutic center was successful to achieve the first degree certificate of accreditation and patient safety standards.
At the 2018 Emam Khomeini Specialty and sub specialty clinic with collaboration of Shohada educational and therapeutic center was stablished.

During the latest evaluations of therapeutic deputy of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, the inpatient capacity of center has been increased to 739 beds.
